This course aims to prepare you for change and improve the outcomes of your treatment for quicker and lasting success. Across the UK, just over 50% of people who have therapy with services like ours are considered to ‘recover’. Inclusion Thurrock want more than just half of our patients to recover – this course aims to help us achieve that goal.

By preparing you for change, helping you to consider not only the right type of therapy, but also the right time for therapy, and setting you up to start treatment knowing exactly what to expect and how to get what you want for your treatment.

What does it cover?

The course runs for three weeks with each session being up to 90 minutes.

Week One: What is change?

Understanding what change means, and more importantly what it means to you, right now; exploring the process of change and how we can better judge our current readiness to change.

Week Two: What is therapy?

One of the common difficulties in successful therapeutic change can be the expectations and understanding of what therapy or counselling actually does.  This week looks at those common misconceptions and helps you to understand what our service can offer, how you might get the quickest, most effective help, and how to make the most of your sessions.

Week Three: What am I changing?

When asked, our therapists all say that their clients see the quickest results when they know what they want to achieve from treatment.  This session focuses on helping you know what it is you want to change when you get to therapy, and how to overcome some of the problems that people have in setting aims for themselves.

  • The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.

Prepare yourself to make the most of your therapy!

This course is designed to help you to consider how to make the most from any therapeutic intervention by understanding your role in the process of change.

  • Are you ready for change?
  • Do you know exactly what you want to get from therapy?
  • What does therapy do, and what doesn’t it do?
  • What’s the quickest way for you to recover and get on with your life?

Attend the course to answer these questions and make it your Time for Change!

Questions?

How do I know this course is right for me?

I guess you don’t, but there’s only one way to find out! This course is designed to help you prepare to get the most out of your treatment, regardless of what treatment or problem you’re dealing with. This course will help you get quicker results out of your therapy.

But I don’t want to talk about my problems in a group...

That’s good - we don’t really want you to talk about them in this group. This course is about preparing for change, so as long as you know what the problem is, you will be able to benefit. If you’re anxious about coming to a group alone, just bring a friend or family member along with you.

Can’t I just wait for my agreed therapy?

You can, but attending this course won’t change your position on the waiting list for therapy, what it will do is give you a much better opportunity to get the best out of your therapy. It’s a win-win - you have nothing to lose from coming along, and everything to gain! Ask yourself, if I’m reluctant to give this a try, how ready am I to make changes in my life?

What if I realise I’m not ready to change?

That’s great! You’ve realised something about yourself that you didn’t know before. What’s more, after attending the course you’ll have started to understand what you need to do to become ready for change and that’s worth a great deal in starting the process of change!
